Musings on Music

I have heard that music is mystical, that music speaks to our souls – that angels sang songs to us in heaven before we were conceived. Music is one of life’s great pleasures, and one of God’s greatest gifts to us. Playing an instrument is one of the best ways to express yourself.

Writing songs and working them out with a band is one of the best therapies that I know, and I’m happy and blessed to be a musician.mpguitar

I play the electric guitar, write my own songs and mostly enjoy garage rock and punk rock from the late ’70s.

I find the following bands a great inspiration:

  1. Ella Fitzgerald is garage rock? 😀

  2. Michelle,
I would love to hear you talk about the similarities and differences btw taking part in a rock show and taking part in a stage production in a future post.

Do they scratch the same itches therapeutically for you?

  3. There really is nothing else like playing a song that you love. Except maybe playing it with people that you love. What a incredible feeling. Great blog! Bookmarked it. xxooo. Oh, I’m thinkin’ you mistakenly left ABBA off your list.

  4. So what are you listening to these days? I have been lacking in my music. Ugh.

  5. Good question, Steve L. I’ve been listening a lot to SISTER ANNE – some fantastic soul punk! http://www.myspace.com/sisteranne

  6. Now what’s this I hear about Mr. Richard Cheese? He’s got an album or two of lounge lizard hits for the modern couch surfer. I wonder if his ouvre will become iconic?
